Pre and Pixi Plus are out on Verizon
Well, two days before Apple’s announcement of their ‘latest creation,’ Palm and Verizon had a reason to celebrate. Palm released their own latest creations, namely the Pre Plus and the Pixi Plus.
Why ‘Plus’ you might ask? Well, the Pre Plus has no center ball, which, as a Pre user and supporter, I can say is rapidly losing use, and has twice the internal memory at 16 GB (still no expansion slot) and, unofficially confirmed twice the RAM. Possibly the most interesting part of these upgrades is the RAM boost, which reportedly allows the Pre Plus to run up to 50+ apps at the same time. The Pixi Plus on the other hand, only has added WiFi. Besides these new and welcome improvements, the phones are exactly the same.
These two phones are available on Verizon for $150 for the Pre Plus and $100 for the Pixi Plus. I can’t really recommend buying the Pixi Plus over the Pre Plus because for $50 more, you get a lot more value with the Pre Plus, including an impending Flash 10.1 beta. You also, for a limited time, can get a free Pixi Plus with the purchase of a Pre Plus or another Pixi Plus (with a two year activation on the free Pixi Plus, of course).
The Verizon plans, on the other hand, are not as good of a deal as the Pre and Pixi Plus’. The cheapest plan, with 450 talk minutes, 5000 texts, and unlimited data, and insurance, comes to be around $110 a month! A comparable sprint plan is around $80 a month.
