The Thumb Thing: Product Spotlight

INTRODUCTION

Ah, the ThumbThing. Pretty interesting little contraption if you ask me.

Essentially, this unique patented book holder spreads the pages of your book open for you; you wear a specially designed ring that does all of the work for you.

Our shipment of Thumb Things

So, in theory, wearing a Thumb Thing eliminates the need to hold onto a book with two hands.

Professors who teach with a book in hand, avid readers who hit the beach a lot, and even the light-reader who enjoys his or her book in the bath or in bed would all enjoy the Thumb Thing.

When you’re done reading, you can simply place the Thumb Thing on top of the book as a bookmark (way cool, I know).

The Thumb Thing’s distributors claim that “the Thumb Thing’s ‘two wings’ will hold the pages open more easily than if you just used your hand, making reading more comfortable.” Is this the case? You’re about to find out in this TechTrackr.com Product Spotlight.

THE GOOD

  • Price– a Thumb Thing should cost you no more than 3 bucks
  • It works!
  • Different sizes and colors to meet the needs of every reader
  • Serves as a bookmark too

THE AVERAGE/ “SO-SO”

  • Somewhat uncomfortable to wear for an extended period of time.

THE BAD

  • None

TECH SPECS

  • Four sizes available (based on the size of your knuckle):
    • Small: 17mm (11/16″) opening
    • Medium: 19mm (3/4″) opening
    • Large: 21mm (13/16″) opening
    • X-Large: 23mm (29/32″) opening

WRAP-UP

The Thumb Thing at work-- the XL ring fit my hand perfectly!

Kinda-sorta like this thing a lot, even though it’s so incredibly simple.

Again, I love that it doubles as a bookmark, so if you get it and don’t like it you’ll have a new bookmark. It only costs 3 dollars, so you cant really go wrong.

My take? It’s perfect for just about anyone who reads (often). I can proudly boast that I only need one hand to read my favorite novel. Now what am I going to do with my other hand?!

P.S. If you want to buy a Thumb Thing or two, check out the page at the local US distributor, Fun-N-Nuf.

  1. I dislike the thumb thing, I think it is ugly and clumsy. Mostly I disagree with the comment about it doubling as a bookmark…the "wings" are not long enough to stay in the book securely, if you move around or put your book in your bag (from the example at the beach) it would fall out immediately.
