The Greatest [Free!] App on Android
I’m a politicaholic, so I may be biased here, but I believe that I’ve found the single greatest app on the Droid: it’s called Congress.
Congress is a database of all the congresspeople working on the hill as well as newly introduced and passed bills. I am inclined to believe that we could all be a bit more up to date with what’s going on in D.C. (one of my brighter friends just recently struggled to name a man he thought had a leadership position in the House of Representatives when he was thinking of Harry Reid (D-NV), the majority leader of the Senate; imagine if I asked you how well Derek Jeter is playing with the Jets. It’s fingernails on the chalkboard to me). This app brings just that knowledge to the masses.
You can search by state, last name and zip code. If we go to Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) page, for instance, we can see his party, his picture, his state and district, his office’s phone number (just click to call), his website, his sponsored bills, the committees he sits on, news about him from a broad plethora of news sites, his most recent tweets (reply with one touch) and YouTube videos including him.
It is an easy-to-use, fun, and useful (if you’re into activism) app. If you have some time to kill, it’s always fun to browse through profiles by state to find the funniest looking congresspeople (hint: the best are in the flyover states!).
